Summary: The main objective of this dissertation is to understand how two women who experienced the impacts of the flooding of the Benevente River in Alfredo Chaves-ES, presented survival strategies/behaviours/resilience in the face of this experience. In terms of theoretical foundation, it uses concepts of Existential Involvement (EE) and Reflective Distancing (DR) by Yolanda Cintrão Forghieri, Actualizing Tendency by Rogers and Kinget and Tragic Optimism by Viktor Frankl. In its literature review, it presents concepts about resilience and shows a clipping of the state of knowledge on the subject in Brazil between the years 2005 to 2020, making use of the collection of the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. Methodologically, existential phenomenology was used. The instruments used to reveal the data were: observation, interviews and a field diary. Among its results, it shows that there is no resilience without adversities. Being resilient is derived from a cause. In other words: if you are resilient, derived from a setback experience. In her final remarks, she shows that the participants express in their reaction to the adversity of the present, from the here-now, their will to live, to enjoy every minute of their lives, of their phenomenology of resilience.
